Add this royalty-worthy real metal woven brocade silk top, to your collection...
This incredible top is a bit of a mystery. I posted it on several forums for very folk with lots of textile knowledge, however I did not get a clear cut answer on where exactly its from. I can tell you that if the piece itself is not antique, the fabric surely is. I have many years around vintage ad antique textiles, and this piece has some HISTORY -even though I haven't figured out what its is quite yet. I
suspect that it is Thai or Indonesian, given the particular Pomegranate style paisley design. It is made of a very beautiful silk brocade fabric, in fuchsia tone, woven through with thin strips of real metal, in silver and gold tones. The lining is an iridescent, peachy-gold silk fabric. The outer shell is made from pieces of this fabric (and it has been patched with some small pieces of this fabric at inner arm area), but the entirety is hand sewn. It has enough of a Western hemisphere style to make it 20th century, but I do believe the fabric and/or buttons may be older. It is finished down the center front with tiny glass buttons that have been hand painted in gold and fuchsia to match (although much of this color has faded from wear). The overall condition is excellent, with some small areas of obvious wear; edges of cuffs/sleeves, repairs mentioned above, and other light signs of wear throughout -please review photographs for full details. No label or maker's marks present. Please feel free to reach out with any information you may have about this top! I've received answers as varied as; it's a Thai/Indonesian Kebaya, or na Banarsi Indian Jacket, or a Qajar-era Persian Jacket... so any info is helpful!!
