This early Gunne Sax dress is sure to turn heads!
Whether you collect Gunne Sax dresses, or not, this early version is surely spectacular. It has a strong Bohemian vibe, and would've blended in perfectly, in Haight-Ashbury, circa 1969. It is made from a lightweight cotton or cotton blend fabric that features a vivid and busy print in blues, lilac, yellow and white. The 'vibe' of the pattern is very Persian and I believe it is officially called, or referred to as 'The Horseman Print' because it features a fanciful knight or horseman, atop his steed, and holding a feather in his hand. The cut and silhouette are somewhat Renaissance-inspired, with an empire style high waistline featuring a lace-up lower neckline with cotton cord lacing in ivory. The sleeves are incredible, puffed down to mid-forearm, then graduate to a super wide zip-up cuff with the contrast Horseman print in white. The skirt is very full and is made up of three long tiers of gently gathered fabric. The notable jute trim, often found on black label Gunne Sax, decorates the neckline, empire waist and cuffs. There is a center back, nylon zipper closure in lilac (matches cuff zippers!). Unlined and without pockets. Only label reads 'Gunne Sax by Jessica, San Francisco' and overall condition is absolutely excellent to near mint, with a light, unnoticeable mark near hem and no flaws to note. Please review photographs for full details.
I have been a huge fan of Gunne Sax since the age of 15, when I discovered a bunch of deadstock dresses in my favorite vintage store (Miami Twice). I've been collecting ever since, and have had two of the infamous black label dresses since the early 2000's. These dresses have been in my personal archive and have only been worn for photo shoots, or special occasions. (Actually, this Horseman dress was never worn after purchase) I am in need of funds right now (medical bills, etc), and am having to sell these wonderful pieces, so please understand that my prices are fairly firm.
