You will be dripping in stars and sparkles, with this unique vintage late 1930's dress...
This incredible dress, dubbed 'The Celestial Dress', is both a work of beauty and a special piece of Fashion history. During the early 1930's the Fashion Originators Guild of America was formed to protect special designs from being copied. This example would have been registered in the late 1930's...
'The Celestial Dress' is made from a light-to-medium weight woven wool (becomes semi-opaque under bright light) with soft hand and a nice 'swishy-ness' to the drape. Bodice of dress features a modest v-neckline and very lightly padded shoulders with pleat style structure. The opening of the dress is a 11.5" metal zipper inset into the center back seam (this is a unique feature!). The most incredible design feature of this dress is the intense micro pleating that starts at the center front lower waistline and drops along the hips toward the back side. These 8 pleats then become small drapes at the backside, giving the skirt extra volume, which then becomes the skirt train...it is amazingly exquisite. When I first found this dress it had an area of snagging and moth-eaten fabric. I professionally repaired this area and backed it with silk crepeline. I wanted to accentuate the wonderful pleats, as well as conceal the repaired area, so I searched and finally found a set of antique jet black beads; beveled crescent moons, lightening bolts and droplets. Then, hundreds of dollars worth of Swarovski crystal rhinestones in gold, black and silver were added, specifically along the pleats and peppered throughout elsewhere. The entire process took about two and a half years of work, on and off. The overall condition is excellent and ready to wear, for a night out on the town!!
