This late 50's fit n' flare dress portends of the wild styles to come in the swinging 60's...
The print is everything on this fun little silk number circa late 1950's. It has your classic fit and flare silhouette, with short sleeve and fitted bodice. The skirt is pin pleated into the waist line for a nice full effect. The entire dress consists of two layers of luxurious silk (silk linings are not that common!), one semi-sheer and super lightweight shell layer and one lightweight, more opaque cream inner layer. The print features a mesmerizing pattern of dots and diamonds ir red and dark blue, on a cream color ground. A blue scallop line with red dots border print is visible at hem, and peeking out from shoulders. The underarms or armsyce feature beautiful gusset type structures, as commonly seen in 1950's pieces. The center back has an invisible zipper closure, which I believe to have been a replacement for the original zipper at some point. There are no maker's marks or labels of any sort. The overall condition is excellent with a few very minor issues; light color bleeding from certain dark blue areas, as well as a light separation of fabrics at the upper bodice lends to a slight bubbling effect (please see photographs for full details).
